The Sweet Briar campus is located in Central Virginia on a beautiful 3,250 acre campus that is rivaled by few. We invite students and parents to visit year-round and offer to personalize your visit to meet your needs.
Sweet Briar College was established in 1901 by Indiana Fletcher Williams in honor of her daughter, Daisy, who died at age 16. The sole owner of the then 8,000-acre Sweet Briar Plantation, Indiana left the estate to create an independent college for women. Uniting traditional undergraduate coursework with applied learning, Sweet Briar College has been educating women in the liberal arts and sciences for over 100 years. Indiana was a strong independent woman with a vision, and Sweet Briar alumnae have benefited immeasurably from her vision, her generosity, and her passion for education. For more than 100 years, SBC alumnae have fulfilled their passions and fulfilled Indiana's vision as lawmakers, humanitarians, artists, scientists and entrepreneurs.
